          Rudy Duran has been a golf professional for over 36 years and is a respected coach and golf course owner/operator although he is best known for being Tiger Woods first golf coach, from ages 4 to 10.  Currently Rudy is working on his game, coaching and promoting golf world wide.

          Rudy turned professional in 1971 and has been a member of the PGA of America since 1976.  He played his tournament golf on the CANADIAN TOUR in 1976 and 1977and the PGA TOUR in 1977 and 1978.

          After he finished tournament golf he put his energies into coaching and golf course management.  During his 36 years in the golf industry Rudy has often been recognized for his many contributions to golf.

  • In 2007 Rudy was inducted into Long Beach, California's, Golf Hall of Fame.
  • In 2004 he received the, Southern California PGA Section, Junior Golf Leader Award. 
  • In 2000 Tiger Woods presented him his most prestigious award; the PGA TOUR'S Card Walker Award for his contribution to Junior Golf.
  • He was selected the, Southern California PGA Section's Northern Chapter Golf Professional of the Year in 1999, 1994 and 1989.
  • In 1999 he received the, California Golf Writers Association, Golden State Award for contributions to golf.
  • In 1994 he received the, Southern California PGA Section, Bill Strausbaugh Award for contributions to PGA Club Relations.
  • He was the Secretary of the founding Board of  Directors of the First Tee Central Coast and is currently a general Board Member.
  • He served as President  for the Southern California PGA Section's Northern Chapter.            

           Rudy loves to coach and play golf.  When coaching he helps players of all ages and skill levels to successfully bring out their natural abilities and use those natural abilities to play the best golf they can. 

           While Rudy's talents as a golf coach are widely known, few know that he is also a golf course designer, owner and operator. This unique background is rarely found in the world of Golf and offers his students true insight into all aspects of the game. Before retiring from golf course management in June 2007, for 27 years Rudy was the owner/operator of the Chalk Mountain Golf Course on the Central Coast of California. 

           Rudy also designed, developed, owned and operated The Links Course at Paso Robles, a Scottish style links course, and co-designed the River Oaks Golf Course, an innovative six-hole course, which is part of a Master Planned Community in Paso Robles.  In February 2008 Rudy and Gary Wishon were awarded the contract to design a 6 hole course for The First Tee of San Diego.

           Rudy brings his knowledge off the course and onto the shelves as an Author, penning his acclaimed book, "In Every Kid There Lurks a Tiger. " This book is designed to help parents coach their children and is filled with his personal teaching tips. It remains a valuable tool for students of all ages who are taking up this wonderful game.  Also included are several nostalgic experiences as the first coach of one of golf's greatest players.
